In Stride is a private dog training practice built on relationships, methodology, and results.
Kat Comstock is the founder and principal trainer at In Stride, LLC. She is also the Western Washington trainer for Josie's Misfits Ranch. She's been a Seattle resident since 2003 — arriving from North Carolina to serve as a US Army Reserve Nurse Corps Officer at JBLM and work as a Registered Nurse at Harborview and UW Medical Centers.
That background isn't incidental to her training work. Clinical nursing and military service run on the same logic: assess, build a structured plan, execute, measure. She applies that same framework to every dog and handler she works with at In Stride.
Kat runs a parallel consulting practice serving the veterinary and healthcare industries. She has a lifelong relationship with dogs and a clear-eyed understanding of what the dog-handler bond actually requires to function well.
Demo dogs
Tula and Miss Dilly are In Stride's demo dogs — they work alongside Kat to show what clear structure and steady handling look like in practice.
Tula
A Standard Poodle - She is a steady training partner who shows how calm, responsive behavior is built.
Miss Dilly
A German Shepherd/Anatolian Shepherd mix who is bright, high-energy, and always up for a demo of focus and drive work.

WHY DO THIS
When asked how she learned to train dogs, Kat will tell you Memphis Red was her most influential teacher.
It started at Kent Animal Shelter. Fifty-five pounds, emaciated, full of worms and fury — Memphis Red was three days from euthanasia. He'd failed as a fighting dog. He was a repeat offender with Animal Control, getting adopted, running away, going stray again and again. Ferocious. Difficult to handle. Not a success story anyone saw coming.
What happened next: a life full of accomplishments. Two-time blue ribbon Puget Sound Dock Dog. Demonstration dog. A training partner, patient and gentle with children, other dogs, and his cat.
That outcome is why In Stride focuses on sheltered, fostered, and adopted families in this region.
Kat has provided me with an incredible toolkit to help me continuously work with my pup. Jax is my first dog, and Kat made me feel at ease through attentive training and answering my endless questions.
Kat treats my dog with the kindness and respect she would her own dog and I trust her implicitly to continuing refining Macca's behavior and responsiveness.
Kat is incredibly easy to work with and is an excellent communicator, making the process that much easier. I recommend her to anyone needing extra training help or just to give your dog more time out.
Beans is always excited about his runs with Kat. Since they started running together he has been so much calmer. The runs really help him get his extra energy out.
